It has been announced that Toronto combine attendee and Union, New Jersey native Johnathan Firmino has signed a contract with Vitoria Setubal, a Portuguese Premier League club.
Firmino was offered a two week trial with Vitoria after his strong performance at the Toronto event in June. After those two weeks, it was determined that he would become a member of the U23 side.
"Signing my first professional contract was a dream come true to me and my family. I couldn't have done it without the support of my family and friends. SoccerViza gave me the exposure I needed to make this possible, and I'm glad to have attended the Toronto Combine this year. That was definitely a moment I will never forget," Firmino said.
Firmino is now one of 300+ players to have signed a professional contract after attending a SoccerViza event.
"Again, we proved that there are players out there that slip through the cracks or that no one cares to notice, due to playing in unknown leagues. Here is a player that has the potential to get on the US National Team radar when they never knew he existed. We will continue to find players like John and give them opportunities to play at the professional level," said Joe Funicello CEO and Director of Scouting at SoccerViza.
"I am looking forward to doing everything I can to help this club, and bring home a trophy at the end of the season," said Firmino.
