CONFIRMED: Thomas Hunter To Trial With Stallion FC

July 4, 2016

It was confirmed this weekend that 27-year old goalkeeper Thomas Hunter, a two-time combine attendee, will compete for a spot on Stallion FC’s 2016 roster. His CV was seen on the SoccerViza Network by Stallion FC head coach Ernie Nierras who both attended SoccerViza’s San Diego Combine, and began a search of the Network to find the final pieces of his roster for next season.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity,” Thomas told SoccerViza.

“I’m looking forward to getting over there and getting started with the club. It’s a new experience, a new country, and I’m thrilled to get the chance to show what I can do.”

Thomas played collegiately at Wofford, in NCAA Division I’s Southern Conference, before going on to play with Chattanooga FC in the NPSL, and then the Atlanta Silverbacks in the NASL in 2014. After playing a platoon role with the Palm Beach Suns in PDL this summer, Hunter was keen for another full time opportunity.

“I was surprised but obviously excited when I found out there was interest for me. It came out of the blue but I was just happy that I was fit and ready to go. I’m thrilled to get the opportunity to travel halfway around the world to play in a new location.”

Stallion FC is consistently one of the top teams in the Philippines, having won the both the league and the cup in the past three seasons. Their current starting goalkeeper is Johann Noetzel, formerly of the Dallas Burn in MLS.

Thomas is excited for the chance to continue developing his game as a goalkeeper in a new part of the world, and to simply do what he loves most.

“This is a unique opportunity for Thomas,” SoccerViza Founder and CEO Joe Funicello said.

“It’s a new part of the world we’ve never sent a player to before, so it’s new for SoccerViza as well. The staff at Stallion FC have been tremendous to work with in their openness to new ideas that SoccerViza has to offer, and Thomas is the first of what I hope to be many players to reap the benefits of this newest member of the SoccerViza Family.”

“First thing I’m looking forward to,” Hunter said, “It’s just to do the thing I love to do, and play the game that I love. It’s a new country, a new team, new teammates, and a chance to continue to play. I love to have the opportunity to keep playing as long as I can. I’m just thankful to Joe [Funicello] and Chris [McCollum] and the rest of the SoccerViza Family for allowing me the stage to make this possible.”

Thomas will spend the final two weeks of pre-season with Stallion FC, whose 2016 campaign begins at the end of January.
