It was confirmed today that Swiss-American center back Gabriel Wirz will go on trial with FC Jazz in January.
The 22-year old defender from New York City came to an agreement with Jazz to join the Ykkonen club for the entire month, and will have a chance to feature in a pre-season tournament against Premier League clubs FC Lahti, Ilves, and SJK, the newly-crowned champions of Finland.
“I’m really excited to be heading over to Finland,” Gabriel told SoccerViza.
“FC Jazz is a club with a lot of history and ambition, so I’m thankful to both the FC Jazz staff and the SoccerViza staff for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to putting my head down and working hard in order to earn a contract.”
Gabriel is the first success story to be confirmed in this winter transfer window for SoccerViza, turning a solid combine performance into an opportunity with the Finnish the club. FC Jazz’s coach John Allen was in attendance at the combine, and liked Wirz right away, keeping the defender in his plans during his return trip to Finland.
“This is a great opportunity for Gabriel,” SoccerViza Founder and CEO Joe Funicello commented.
“John Allen demonstrated his passion for helping our players at the Danbury combine when he took the opportunity to coach a team during the final two days. He is very involved and committed to developing players and getting the best out of them. This is a great environment for a player of Gabriel’s quality to find himself in, as it can lead to much bigger things down the road.”
Gabriel’s trial is set to begin in early January, and will last through the month.
