Richmond, Virginia will be place to the state’s first SoccerViza event from October 17-18. After working closely with Virginia and Washington D.C.-area players since SoccerViza’s first combine in 2013, it was decided to bring an event to the Mid-Atlantic region.
Players at the Richmond ID Combine will be playing with the goal of being selected to play for free in SoccerViza’s first East Coast Showcase combine which will be held in November. SoccerViza will also be scouting players in Danbury, Connecticut and Bradenton, Florida in order to select 60 players for what will be the best scouting opportunity for professional clubs to take place in the Eastern United States this winter.
“I’m very excited to bring our first event to Virginia,” SoccerViza CEO Joe Funicello commented.
“We’ve helped a lot of players there in the past, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of what the D.C. area has to offer. There are a lot of places for good players to come out of, and I expect there will be some eye-turning talent that goes through.”
Many players from the area have come through SoccerViza’s combine system in the past, earning opportunities abroad. Jannik Eckenrode (George Mason) and Uche Onyeador (Georgetown) earned contracts in Iceland since 2015, while Matt Oduaran (University of Maryland) currently plays in Portugal. Goalkeeper Phil Saunders (UMBC) played in Iceland in 2014 and 2015, and Mike Burke (George Washington) also received a pre-season opportunity in Iceland in 2014.
Richmond’s ease-of-access to North Carolina will also make it a strong attraction to talented players from the Tar Heel state, giving them an opportunity to showcase themselves in front of professional scouts.
