After his performance at SoccerViza’s Danbury, Connecticut combine this past November, Gabriel Wirz was invited to trial with Finnish Ykkonen club FC Jazz. The trial was successful, resulting in a contract offer from the club.
Wirz, 23, finished his eligibility at Amherst College in Massachusetts, winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in the final game of his storied career.
“I’m very happy for Gabriel,” SoccerViza Player and Team Relations Director Christopher McCollum commented.
“He’s a good, humble player with a great head on his shoulders that’s backed up by his ability on the field. He has a great combination of athletic ability and intelligence, and it’s going to take him far. Jazz is a great club to get into to start his professional career.”
FC Jazz finished last season in 7th place, and aim to go higher this season under the direction of manager John Allen. Bringing Gabriel in is a move that’s expected to shore up and provide leadership for Jazz in the back, as well as to develop a potentially valuable asset for the future.
